Training
11.136 Twenty-two Civil Engineering Graduates were undergoing training within the Office under the Practical Training Scheme of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
11.137 Training was restricted due to the transfer of the Assistant Waterworks Inspector (Training) to other duties, the post remaining vacant for the whole year owing to restrictions on recruitment.
11.138 The Waterworks Inspector (Training) attended a review course on basic training and audio-visual aids and an Engineer undertook 12 months training attachments to various water authorities in the United Kingdom.
11.139 A metrication and measurement course for foreman in the Mains, Waste Detection & House Service Sections and refresher courses for House Service Inspectors, foreman and minor staff in Headworks Section were held. In-service training of Assistant Instrument Mechanics continued.
Welfare
11.140 Assistance was given to a number of officers on matters concerning applications for loans, housing problems, probate procedure, children's education and employment, employment for retired officers and families of deceased officers. Visits to staff in hospital, at home, or at their place of work were made by the Welfare Officer.
