11.83 Liaison with the Consulting Engineers on electrical and instrumentation aspects and the taking over of equipment for maintenance on the Plover Cove and High Island Water Schemes continued. Apart from planned extension work in the design and procurement stage, the majority of work on both schemes has been completed and taken over, the main outstanding work being the installation of two 2MVA transformers and re-organisation of power supplies at Tai Mei Tuk Pumping Station on the former scheme, and instrumentation on the latter.
11.84 The repair of five defective flowmeters was satisfactorily concluded by a specialist from U.K. The opportunity was taken to train local staff in the procedures for repair of defective flowmeters.
11.85 An evaluation of the economics of utilising surplus power available from the Lai Chi Kok Incinerator was completed, in relation to the resiting and expansion of Lai Chi Kok Salt Water Pumping Station.
11.86 Installation of electrical and instrumentation plant and equipment with associated building services on 5 projects of various size was completed during the year; 21 other projects were in various stages of procurement and installation.
11.87 The planning, design and specification of equipment for five projects were commenced. Shortage of professional staff delayed commencement of work on two other projects. Budgetary planning was developed for eight other projects in preparation for P.W.S.C. papers.

11.88 Desalting work is subdivided between the Projects Division and the Operations Division.
11.89 The Projects Division is responsible for monitoring the activities of the Consulting Engineers and Inspecting Agents in respect of off-site manufacture of plant for the Lok On Pai Desalter. It is also responsible for monitoring expenditure on the project as a whole, the preparation of contract documents for consumable materials and services required for operation of the Lok On Pai Desalter, and for miscellaneous studies and enquiries which are required from time to time. The Division is also concerned with the evaluation of plant performance of the Lok On Pai Desalter during the acceptance tests, and for preliminary studies in connection with possible future desalting projects.
