The principal role of the Planning Group is to assist the Principal Government Highway Engineer and the Government Highway Engineers in the general management of the Office and the promotion of productivity. Among its tasks are the monitoring of project expenditure, the review of general progress and programme of projects, preparation of overall annual estimates, and personnel planning and posting of professional and technical staff. The Planning Group is also responsible for the standardization of design criteria and construction practices, advice on contract administration and claims, and management of library facilities.
Revision of Civil Engineering Manual

The current Civil Engineering Manual is being reviewed and updated to ensure that the same work standards are adopted and proper procedures are followed throughout the Highways Office and by consultants engaged on Government projects. The revision in draft form of two of the volumes was completed.
Finalisation of Paul Lee Engineering Co., Ltd.'s Account
9.08
Government's claim against the company on all eleven highways contracts has been finalised and submitted to the Official Receiver.
Computerisation
9.09
The promotion of the use of computer in Highways Office was initiated by the Planning Group, close liaison being maintained with Data Processing Division of Government Secretariat.
