8.05

DESIGN AND PROJECTS DIVISION

Chief Electrical and Mechanical Engineer

H. STUBBS, C.Eng., M.I.Mech.E., M.I.E.E., M.B.I.M.

This Division is responsible for all new electrical and mechanical engineering projects which are undertaken on behalf of client Departments and the various Offices of the Public Works Department. In addition to acting as consultants, the duties of the Division include the investigation, design, preparation of specifications, drawings, indents and contract documents for plant and equipment, as well as the supervision and commissioning of projects under construction.

Projects Completed

8.06 During the year work on 44 projects was completed. Expenditure on electrical and mechanical plant installations amounted to $76 million, of which $40 million was allocated by warrant from other Government Departments and Offices of the Public Works Department, with $36 million expended in respect of non-recurrent votes controlled by the Office.

8.07

Projects completed at the International Airport including the installation of passenger aerobridges at Bays Numbers 3, 4 and 5, sewage pumping system and taxiway lighting, floodlights and Aircraft Docking Alignment Systems at the Airport Cargo Complex. Modifications and improvements to pig and cattle slaughtering, dressing and conveying lines at abattoirs were completed. Emergency generators were installed at Stanley and Kowloon City Police Stations and North Point Division Police Headquarters and also for the cold store for drugs for the Government Supplies Department.
