Herr Schinzinger, chief designer of the ill-fated machine and two of the Junkers other members concern, Thieme and Hansen, es- caped with slight injuries.
The cause of the disaster is not yet definitely established.
The machine had taken off from the runway but for some unknown reason began to lose height and its right wing struck a palm tree, which, under the force of the impact, merely bent over and did not snap in two. This is believed to have caused the disaster-Trans-Ocean.
ATTACK NEAR SAMSHUI
Chungking, To-day.
The attention of Chinese quar- ters here is now concentrated com
pletely on the attack by the Japan- ese along the frontier of Hong Kong.
Simultaneously with the offen- sive: along the Hong Kong frontier the Japanese are apparently en- deavouring to push forward west of Canton, where the Chinese, how- ever, claim to have repulsed all attacks.
From the frontier between the provinces of Hupeh and Hunan, minor engagements are reported which, however, are hardly likely to have important results,
Recent Japanese air raids in the province of Shenal are regarded by military" quarters here as a sign that the Japanese are planning an attack on that province."
On the Yellow River the Japan- eau artillery continues to shell the Chinese positions on the other bank of the river in the région of Tungkuan.
The Japanese have thus far, however, not attempted to force % passage across the river, and are apparently waiting for the arrival: of further reinforcements.—Trans- . Ocean.
