## Resumption Section
7.24
The two Resumption Sections undertake all acquisitions of land and interests in land for public purposes, with the exception of land required for the purposes of the Mass Transit Railway, Urban Renewal and Environmental Improvement projects. The Sections are also responsible for various actions and procedures under the Crown Land Ordinance and the Streets (Alteration) Ordinance, for the vesting of private streets in the Crown and the closure and/or alteration of public streets.
7.25 Resumption Section 1 deals mainly with capital works projects, comprising the main major road schemes such as Canal Road Flyover Extension, Aberdeen Tunnel, West Kowloon Corridor, the Elevated Road from Boundary Street to Cheung Sha Wan Road, Pok Fu Lam Road Widening, Ap Lei Chau Bridge and the Hill Road Flyover on the proposed new link from Pok Fu Lam Road to Connaught Road West and other projects such as the Western Reclamation Stages I and II, Wong Tai Sin Fire Station, Ma Hang (Stanley West) Drainage Improvements, Hong Kong Housing Society Urban Improvement Scheme in Queen's Road and Kwun Tong New Town Further Development. Additional cases involving exchanges and some environmental improvement work are also undertaken when the balance of the workload so requires.

Resumption Section 2 deals mainly with the acquisition of land for road widening schemes in advance of requirements where an affected property is to be redeveloped and the new building is required to be set back. Acquisition is usually by agreement, resumption powers only being necessary where land is required by a specific date for the actual implementation of a road widening scheme.
7.27
During the year, Capital Works projects accounted for the resumption of 41 properties at an estimated cost of some $12.5 million.
In addition, 19 cases in connection with road-widening were completed at a total cost of $2,754,332.
7.28
One separate private treaty grant in lieu of cash compensation was completed during the year.
7.29
Six areas of private streets were vested in the Crown under the Crown Land Ordinance, and two street closures were effected under the Streets (Alteration) Ordinance.

The Survey Branch covers a wide range of responsibilities including all official mapping in the territory for development, administrative and recreational purposes as well as the demarcation of original lot boundaries of private and Government properties. The Branch is divided into two Divisions, one covering the Hong Kong and Islands area and the other the rest of the territory.
