The protest strike against M. Daladier's Govern-
ment's emergency decrees which was proclaim in the Valenciennes district in North France has assumed extremely grave dimensions since 15,000 men joined the striking workers of the metallurgical trade.
The total number of the strikers in the Valencien- nes district thus now exceeds 40,000. Numer- ous motor lorries with Mobile Guards from the various parts of France arrived in Valencien- nes yesterday and the preceding night. Among these Mobile Guards were detachments from such far distant regions as the Bordeaux district.

The strike movement in protest against the finance decrees of the French Government is extending and involves now about 30,000 workers, especially in the north of France.

Larger works have not yet been evacuated, how- ever, since the police forces and Mobile Guard detachments at the disposal of the authorities were not sufficiently strong to enforce the evacuation.
