One Engineer was awarded an Asian Productivity Organisation fellowship to attend the Industrial and Systems Engineering Course, held in Tokyo from June to September, 1976.
Welfare

The Staff Welfare Officer continued to provide a wide range of services which included assistance offered to staff on application for loans, legal aid, places in schools, low-cost housing, and public assistance. A total of 124 cases were dealt with during the year. Visits were also made to staff in hospitals or at home on prolonged sick leave.

Joint Staff Discussion Groups on a Divisional basis continued to hold regular meetings with a view to maintaining and promoting mutual understanding and co-operation among all the staff of the Office.

Outings to Ocean Park for staff of the Office and their families were arranged, and over 500 persons took part.
6.86 Members of the staff participated in all Departmental sports events throughout the year. In the 8th P.V.D. Swimming Gala, the Office came first in the Men's 50 and 100m Breaststroke events. In the 9th P.Y.D. Sports Day, the Office won the 100m, 200m, and 4 x 100m relay races. The 7-a-side mini-football league for the Stead Challenge Trophy was held as a joint function with the Highways Office, six Divisions of the Office taking part.
The Drainage Works Division won the Trophy.
