Detailed planning and design of a seawall and a pier in connection with the proposed Cattle Quarantine Depot at Tsing Yi Island commenced.
Maintenance and Dredging

General maintenance and repairs were carried out to Government piers, seawalls, breakwaters, salt-water pumphouses, navigation markers and light beacons.

Major dredging was carried out by the Division's self-propelled dredger in the western end of Victoria Harbour in connection with the Western Reclamation scheme and the realignment of fairways. A total of 184 730 cubic metres of spoil was removed. The Division's two pontoon dredgers engaged in maintenance dredging at Yau Ma Tei typhoon shelter eastern fairway, pier approaches, nullah and sewer outfalls and salt-water pumphouse intakes removed a total of 47 360 cubic metres of spoil.
Survey and Marine Site Investigations

The Survey Section carried out both land and marine surveys and setting out. Work continued on the updating and metrication of harbour charts, using electronic distance measuring equipment.

The two boring barges completed a total of 236 boreholes at 18 sites, amounting to 3 076 of boring.
