At Kowloon Bay Development Area, construction of three sections of major stormwater drains, comprising 250 metres of 4-cell box culvert, 520 metres of 3-cell box culvert and 80 metres of 7-cell box culvert, together with 70 metres of 5-cell temporary culvert, was completed. At the same time, two contracts for construction of 200 metres of 7-cell box culvert and 240 metres of 3-cell box culvert together with 330 metres of single cell box culvert respectively commenced. Pending completion of the major stormwater drains, public dumping was suspended in September 1976 at Kowloon Bay, where about 520,000 cubic metres of material from Government projects and private building sites were deposited to form some 2.52 hectares of land.
6.16 Reclamation commenced in December 1976 at Lai Chi Kok Bay, where about 350,000 cubic metres of material from Mass Transit Railway works, Government projects, and private building sites were deposited to form some 4.0 hectares of land.
Tai Po
6.17
The site formation contract for the Tai Po Industrial Estate, Stage I was in progress. A contract for construction of trunk stormwater drain in the Industrial Estate commenced.
Refuse Disposal

Good progress was maintained on contracts for controlled tipping of refuse at Gin Drinkers Bay, Ngau Chi Wan and Shuen Wan. The first contract for the controlled tipping of refuse at Shuen Wan was completed and the second contract commenced. The controlled tips at Ma Tso Lung and Sai Tso Wan were in operation. A contract for building the road to the future tipping site at Siu Lang Shui continued. A total of 1,023,000 tonnes of refuse was treated by controlled tipping technique.
Airport Development

Construction of the new air cargo apron and associated facilities was substantially completed.
6.20
Good progress was maintained on construction of the final outfall section of the Kai Tak Nullah and the bridge crossing for the Airport Tunnel Road.
6.21
Maintenance and minor new works to a value of $1,980,000 were carried out during the year. Routine maintenance included repairs to apron slabs and joints, drainage channel repairs, painting of day markings and rubber removal from the runway, nullah desilting and road repairs. Minor new works included construction of an extension to the Promontory Road, some traffic re-routing works, and improvements to drainage and formation in unpaved areas.
