QUEEN MARY

sea.

The Princess was passing in her carriage when she saw a peculiar Welsh ceremony, now unfor- tunately extinct, being conducted. She inquir- ed what it was, and heard it was a "bidding” wedding (to which all the couple's friends were 'invited). Then they all walked to the church

headed by a fiddler.

The future Queen Mary watched intently.

Later

she called at the bride's home, but missed her, for Mrs. Davies was on her honeymoon.

A polar bear at Whipsnade Zoo tried hard to strike the right note with a double bass, but his efforts were somehow not in accord. He angrily finished by smashing the instrument as a grand finale. He's got the right idea here--the only snag is he's trying to place the wrong end under his chin.
