This Branch is under the control of the Government Quantity Surveyor, assisted by the Chief Quantity Surveyor, is divided into seven sections each under the supervision of a Senior Quantity Surveyor, dealing generally with the following matters :-

(a) Projects generally not exceeding $500,000 for which Specifications are prepared.

(b) Projects generally exceeding $500,000 for which Bills of Quantities are prepared.

(c) Special projects such as Kai Tak Airport development and large hospitals.

(d) Government Housing carried out by Architectural Office.

(e) Maintenance contracts and advice on subsidized schools.

(f) Defence works for which Bills of Quantities or Specifications are prepared depending on the size of project.

(g) Estimates, cost planning, cost statistics, and materials supplied through Government Supplies Department.

The Branch is responsible for the preparation of estimates, bills of quantities, contract documents, valuations for interim payments, final accounts and contractual claims for all Architectural Office projects. It is also responsible for arranging contracts and checking accounts for the maintenance of Government buildings and British Armed Forces buildings, including fully checking the measurement of a minimum of 15% of all Works Orders issued.

4.20

The Branch has an establishment of 51 Quantity Surveyors and professional assistants; supporting technical staff is engaged on preparation of contract documents for minor works, 'working-up', site measurement, checking accounts and similar duties.

4.21
