Secret Political Discussions At Chequers
London, To-day.
The British Prime Minister, Mr. Neville Chamber- lain, it is now revealed, conferred at Chequers during last week-end with Government advi sers on matters of supreme political import- ance. This, it is said, accounts for the delay in choosing his new Cabinet Ministers.
The diplomatic correspondent of the Daily Mail, Wilson Broadbent, claims to have authority for stating that Chamberlain is aiming at bring- ing about an Anglo-German armament pact which France and Italy will eventually be ask- ed to join.
RIBBENTROP TRIP AROUSES SPECULATION
Paris, To-day,
The journey of the Reich Foreign Minister, Herr von Ribbentrop, to Rome, has aroused great interest in French political circles where the view is held that it may have the result of hastening a solution of various outstanding European pro- blems.
One of the cardinal points of the Anglo-German Pact is said to be fan arrangement relating to the co-
lonies.
France, says Mr. Broadbent, is to be invited to take part in this arrangement with the view to meet- ing Germany's desire for expan- sion.
Rumours apart, nothing definite is known about the details of this colonial settlement which is, na- turally, brought in connection with the journey to Lisbon and London of Mr. Pirow, South African De- fence Minister..
