JAPANESE HURL ARMY AGAINST TEHAN WITHOUT SUCCESS
Nanchang, To-day.
A day-long battle raged to the north of Tehan, on the Nanchang-Kiukiang Railway yesterday when the Japanese made another attempt to take the long-coveted town but were again re- pulsed by the Chinese defenders.
Japanese troops of the 101st Division launched an attack on the Chinese positions north of the town from the east and north directions early in the morning.
The Chinese put up stiff resistance and inflicted heavy losses with machine-guns and handgrenades.
About noon Japanese troops cross- ed the Teh River to the south bank under a protective barrage. They were immediately surrounded and annihilated after severe fighting.
