over to-morrow."

Hodgson was previously at Oriel College, Oxford, and, as an old Etonian, he would be able to row for Third Trinity Boat Club, Cambridge.

Shanghai were unable to score until the sixth head, when they chalked up two, and Duncan made them a present of one in the 12th

of head, taking out three the K.B.G.C.'8 shots to do so. The score was then 14-3. At the 16th head Shanghai added two and one each in the 18th, 19th and 20th heads.

The No. 1's were outstanding at per- the commencement, Watson haps being superior and the rest of the home rink played so solidly on a very light green, that Duncan had little to do but consolidate the well built-up heads.

It was mainly through Hodgson's efforts that the Dark Blues were able to break the long sequence of Cam- bridge wins in the boat race. Before the 1937 race the Light Blues had gain- ed thirteen successive wins, but the Oxford crew of that year reached the Mortlake winning post three lengths ahead.

Penny-A-Ball Tax

Plan Hitch

THE Squash

Rackets Association have withdrawn their intended resolution, which was to have been sub- mitted to the extraordinary general meeting at the R.A.C., to impose a tax of a penny a ball on the understanding that this would be borne by the manu- facturers. This resolution has now been postponed until the ordinary gen- eral meeting in December.

There is a substantial profit on squash balls at 1s 8d each, and the great majority of club players did not see why they should pay another penny. They say that the makers can well afford to foot the extra cost.

It does not seem, any more likely that the general meeting of the asso- ciation in Decomber will approve the 6 tax any more than the extraordinary 0 general meeting would have done so,

The resolution to lower the play line to 17 inches, instead of the present 19 10 inches, will be certain to meet some 0opposition. The ordinary player does 28 not appreciate the difference but if this resolution is carried. It will, mean that 216 it will cost every court in the country.
