REFEREES MUST FULFILL OBLIGATIONS
(By "UBIQUE")
Last Saturday, the Third Division soccer encounter between the Amateur Sporting Association and the Royal Air Force was not played owing to the non-appearance of the referee, and this match has accordingly to be re-arranged.
The referee, a naval man, was owing to unforseen circumstances, called for special duty at the very last moment and he had no means of obtaining a substitute or of informing the teams.

Referring to the League's £100,000 scheme, Mr. Sutcliffe said each of the clubs of the League had been asked to raise an amount which, it was con- fidently hoped would produce $44,000. Mr. Sutcliffe pointed out that £50,000 would have to be contributed by the public to realise the full_sum.
The objects of the scheme, he ex- plained, were to assist players to se- cure some suitable employment when their playing days were over to help them during their football life to fit themselves for such occupation, to help players who had fallen on lean times, and to make the, profession of a foot- baller both secure and attractivé.
