12.08 Detailed designs were completed for reclamation works in Area 478, trunk road T1 adjacent to the race course, Tai Po Road Improvement from Tai Wai to Fo Tan, interim sewage treatment works, river walls in Area 28, Sha Tin By-pass widening and extension, roads and drainage in Area 7A, reclamation works in Areas 5B, 50 and 51, and formation and trunk drainage for Stage I of Area 168. Detailed designs continued for Road P6 from P2 to Area 16B, river walls in Areas 12 and 26, the main sewage pumping station, the trunk sewer river crossing, the trunk sewer rising main in Area 47A, the formation of Area 3A, reclamation in Area 140, formation and trunk drainage for Stage II of Area 16B, roads and drainage in Areas 43 and 27B, the formation of Areas 1A and 1E, Road P5 from P2 to Area 20 and Stage I of the permanent sewage treatment works.

Engineering Works

12.09 Work was completed on roads and drains in Area 16A, which is zoned for industrial use, internal roads and drains in Lek Yuen Estate, and civil engineering works for the temporary sewage treatment plant; installation of machinery for the latter plant was 95% completed.

12.10 During the year, work commenced on reclamation in Areas 8C, 15A and 21, the construction of a main culvert through Area 8B and two culverts under the K.C.R. tracks, the construction of a haul road and temporary bridges to Kau To Borrow Area which will provide the necessary filling materials for Area 47B, the widening of Sha Tin Bridge, the construction of river walls in Area 28 and the improvement of Tai Po Road from Tai Wai to Fo Tan.

Buildings

12.11 The construction of public housing at Lek Yuen Estate was completed and Blocks 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7 were handed over to the Housing Authority. Blocks 4 and 5 were ready for handing over to the Authority by the end of the year.

12.12 Piling work was completed for Phase IA of the Wo Che Housing Authority estate and the construction of the superstructure was about 20% complete.

12.13 Piling work for the Sha Tin Divisional Police Station also commenced.

Private Development

12.14 Close liaison was maintained with the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club and their architects engaged on the construction of the new race course at Sha Tin with a view to co-ordinating their activities with the new town engineering works. Reclamation of part of Area 47B adjacent to the race course was almost completed by the Club on behalf of Government.
