A bitter battle which started four days ago along the northern banks of the Yangtse is still rag- ing furiously in the Hwangmei-Kwangtsi re- gion and also in the neighbourhood of Liuan, according to semi-official messages from the front this morning.
Both sides have suffered heavy casualties, but the Chinese are still holding to their main original positions.
A violent clash occurred last, night near the station at Hwang- mei when the Chinese stormed the Japanese posts in an attempt to capture the station. Japanese reinforcements forced the Chin- ese to retire to their former posi-| tions in the hills.

The German National prizes were awarded for the first time at the last year's Reichs Party Con- gress.
