The Traffic & Transport Survey Division acts as a service agency to any Government Department requiring surveys, information or planning forecasts associated with the internal movement of people or goods.

The findings of the more significant surveys are issued in the form of technical reports, of which 46 were distributed during the year. Sixteen data records containing the results of minor surveys were also issued.

Hong Kong Comprehensive Transport Study

9.89

Volume I of the Draft Final Report on this study was issued by the Consultants, and it will be followed in April 1976 by Volumes II and III. Nine major tests were carried out as part of the study, covering three design years (1981, 1986 and 1991), three alternative land use patterns, three alternative transport systems and two sets of policy options.

Transport Planning Studies

9.90 The following minor studies were carried out by the new transport planning team:

(a) A forecast of the patronage of the vehicular ferry service between North Point and Kowloon City if re-introduced as a service supplementary to the one between North Point and Kwun Tong which replaced the Kowloon City route in July 1974.

(b) An assessment of the capacity requirements of a bridge to Ap Lei Chau based on revised population figures for the island.

(c) An assessment of the capacity requirements of a by-pass to Yuen Long.

(d) A preliminary assessment of the benefits of advancing the construction of Tuen Mun Road Stage II.

(e) A preliminary assessment of the financial viability of a bridge at Lei Yue Mun.
