A total of 89 Duncan Model 60 parking meters was installed in the Wan Chai district on Hong Kong Island replacing the existing Venner parking meters for experimental purposes.
9.55 In Kowloon, 781 old-rate meters in Mong Kok were converted to new-rate meters while 83 and 178 metered parking spaces for goods vehicles were provided in Tsim Sha Tsui and Yau Ma Tei respectively.
9.56 The number of designated parking spaces for private cars was reduced by 533, 274 and 48 on Hong Kong Island, in Kowloon and in the New Territories respectively.

There was a nett decrease of 17 lorry parking, loading and unloading spaces on Hong Kong Island and 42 in Kowloon, and a nett increase of 6 spaces in the New Territories.

There was a nett increase of 170 motor cycle parking spaces on the Island and 6 in the New Territories, and a nett decrease of 157 spaces in Kowloon.
Traffic Light Signals

Eleven additional sets of traffic light signals were installed on the Island, bringing the total number of sets now in operation to 111.

On the Mainland, 16 additional sets of traffic light signals were installed, bringing the total number of sets now in operation to 191.
9.62 Designs of signal installations were completed for a further 23 locations, 15 on the Island and 8 on the Mainland.

The phasing and timing of existing signal installations were reviewed and adjustments were made where changes of traffic pattern had been observed.
Street Lighting

A total of 301 new lamps was installed on the Island, 236 in Kowloon and 651 in the New Territories.

Annual expenditure on street lighting increased by 76% from $2,892,000 to $5,089,000 on Hong Kong Island, while on the Mainland, it increased by 47% from $6,554,000 to $9,635,000.
