The construction of a new railway bridge and the re-alignment of Tai Po Road at M.S. 17½ commenced in July, 1975 and further improvement of Tai Po Road between the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Tai Po was under consideration. Planning also commenced on the widening of Ting Kok Road from Tai Po to the Tai Po Industrial Estate and the new trunk route from She Tin to Lam Kam Road junction in north Tai Po, recommended by Consulting Engineers in their report on the New Territories transport requirements to 1983.

In Kwai Chung, the construction of new roads and drains in Areas 10G, 10H and 37B was started. Projects for which design was nearing completion included the new link road to Texaco Road, a new flyover linking Area 10 with Lai Chi Kok Terrace Road and the footbridge over Castle Peak Road near Chung On Street. Planning for the Tsuen Wan By-pass between Kwai Chung Road and Texaco Road and for roads and drains on Lai King headland, to cope with the development programme in this area, was in hand. New roads to Kwai Chung Incinerator and the Cargo Handling Area in Rambler Channel typhoon shelter were being designed.
9.30 In the Sai Kung Peninsula, the loop road connecting Nai Chung, Wu Kwai Sha and Siu Lek Yuen and the improvement of Clear Water Bay Road between Anderson Road and Hiram's Highway were under active planning. The reconstruction of Hang Hau Road was completed.

Tunnelling work on the second tube of the Lion Rock Tunnel was completed and the construction of the carriageway and ancillary works for the tunnel followed. Design was in hand for the construction of the second carriageway between the north tunnel portal and Sha Tin, while the widening of the existing bridge over Shing Mun River at Sha Tin was in progress.

Construction work proceeded, to the design of the Division, on the western portion of the elevated road from Gascoigne Road to Tong Mi Road. Full scale loading tests were made on parts of the structure, for comparison not only with the results of the original theoretical analysis but also with the results of the model tests already carried out by the University of Hong Kong. Construction of the elevated road between Prince Edward Road and Lai Chi Kok Road, also designed by the Division, was completed.
