Hing Wah Housing Authority Estate, Chai Wan started in December 1975 and the internal estate roads were substantially completed and open to traffic to facilitate the occupation of the estate. Works on estate roads, drains and recreation areas for both the Pak Tin and Mei Tung Estates, Kowloon were completed. Good progress was maintained on the construction of new roads and drains in Lai King Estate and Lei Muk Shue Estate in Kwai Chung and Lek Yuen Estate in Sha Tin, New Territories.

New contracts were let for the construction of roads and drains in Kwai Shing Estate and Ha Kwai Chung Estate. Design of roads and drains in Wo Che Estate in Sha Tin commenced.
Drainage and Sewage Works

Comprehensive drainage systems were provided and completed in conjunction with road projects and building development in a number of districts on Hong Kong Island including Chai Wan, Quarry Bay, North Point, Tai Hang, Wan Chai, Aberdeen and Repulse Bay. In Kowloon, drains were laid in the Cheung Sha Wan Industrial Area, on Hung Hom reclamation and in Tai Kok Tsui. The laying of the main sewer in Kwai Chung Development Area 10H was completed while the construction of new drains in Areas 10G, 10H and 37B was started. Drainage maintenance operations including the clearance of choked drains and sewers and the removal of sand and silt from culverts and nullahs constituted another important responsibility of the three Works Divisions.
New Works
9.17 The following paragraphs describe briefly the progress on major works. Details of projects completed or under construction are given in Appendices X and Y while statistics relating to roads and drains are shown in Appendix AA.
Road Works in Hong Kong
9.18 Several major contracts were completed during the year. These include the widening, to dual carriageway, of Pok Fu Lam Road through Pok Fu Lam Village, the realignment and widening of Queensway to eliminate the dangerous sharp bend, the provision of a new road link between Cloud View Road and Tai Hang Road fronting Lai Tak Tsuen and the construction of the bus terminus and access road for the Oceanarium at Aberdeen.

Works commenced on the widening of Pok Fu Lam Road from Mt. Davis Road to Queen Mary Hospital and on the first stage of the Urban Renewal Pilot Scheme Area roads and drainage.
9.20
Planning commenced on road improvement projects for Stubbs Road/Queen's Road East junction, Repulse Bay Road, Stubbs Road, Victoria Road and Queen's Road East. Detailed design was also carried out on Pok Fu Lam Road widening from Queen Mary Hospital to Pok Fu Lam Reservoir Road and a new road through Aberdeen from Shek Pai Wan Road to Aberdeen Fish Wholesale Market. Planning of the elevated road from Pok Fu Lam Road to Connaught Road West was well advanced.
