RUNCIMAN'S LONG

TALK WITH HERR HENLEIN No Official Communique Follows First Meeting

Now In Role Of Mediator Instead Of Go-Between

Prague, To-day.

Lord Runciman's interview with Herr Konrad Hen- lein, to which so much importance is attached, is now taking place at a secluded spot half-way between the Prague and Asche (where Herr Henlein lives).

Every precaution is being taken to avoid publicity and only the two principals and interpreters will be present.

The reason the Czech Government's dealings have hitherto been mainly with Dr. Kundt, is be- cause Herr Henlein has never taken the oath of the Czech Constitution.-Reuter.

BIGGER TASK

With the scene of the political! drama transferred to Schloss Rothenhaus, Lord Runciman now appears in the role of a mediator after having acted for two weeks as go-between whose task was to establish whether and in what was the deadlock might be overcome.

That sofar it was not been pos- sible to find such a platform is due to the fact that the "Deutsche Dip- lomatisch-Politische Korrespon- denz" puts it -"the Prague Gov- ernment has come forward only as representative of the Czech popula- tion of the state."

The paper concludes by saying:

The interview between Lord Run- ciman and Konrad Henlein lasted "The solution, properly understood, over four hours..

Lord Runciman was accompanied by Lady Runciman as well as Mr. Peto and Mr. Ashton-Gwatkin.

LORD RUNCIMAN

SEEKING TO BREAK NEW GROUND

Prague, To-day,

Lord Runciman returned to Prague yesterday after a long pri- vate conversation with Herr. Hen- lein, at which, it has transpired, Herr Henlein referred to alleged Tracial persecution and terrorism of

the Sudeten Germans.

There was also a general meet- ing between Lord Runciman's staff and the Henlein leaders.

No official communique has been issued, but it is believed the contact was helpful.

It was suggested that a meeting might be arranged between Herr Henlein and Dr. Hodza at which an effort would be made to break_new ground.
