A. D. Locke Holes Chip For 'Eagle'

(By AIR MAIL)

London, August 1.

A. D. Locke, 20-year-old South African champion, figured on the winning side in the two series of professional four-ball matches played at Addington Palace, near Croydon, yesterday, in aid of University College Hospital.

Locke, playing brilliantly, was instrumental in saving his side in the first game. Partnered by C S. Denny (Thorpe Hall), he was 3 down at the twelfth against A. J. Lacey (Berkshire) and Abe Mitchell (Verulam), but Locke holed a chip at the long thirteenth for an "eagle" 3. ·

Holing long putts at the next three holes, Locke and Denny be- came 1 up, and eventually won by this margin,

In the second match Locke and A. H. Padgham (Sundridge Park) beat J. Adams (Royal Liverpool) and W. J. Cox (Wimbledon Park) 4 and 3, the winners having the better ball score of 63 to 67.

EXCITING FINISH

The early game between Alfred Perry (Leatherhead) and Adams and Padgham and Cox provided an exciting finish. The first-named pair were 8 down at the 15th, but Perry found his form, and his side, finishing with three successive 3's, halved the match. !

Apart from Locke, the only other dual winner was Sam King (Knole Park assistant), who, partnered by E. E. Whitcombe (Porter's Park), defeated D. J. Rees (Surbiton) and M. Daragon - (Addington Palace) by 1 hole in the first series. Later King and Lacey beat Perry and Mitchell 2 and 1. Results:-
