6.34 Satisfactory progress was made on most schemes though some were affected by the current economic and energy problems.

Hong Kong

6.35 Construction of the seawall and reclamation forming part of Central Reclamation Stage V continued, as did the planning of a large reclamation along the waterfront of the Western District.

6.36 Further reclamation at Aldrich Bay, to provide about 4 hectares of land for part of the Eastern Corridor Road, boatyard sites and district open space, was planned.

6.37 The reclamation at Chai Wan progressed satisfactorily, the more recently reclaimed areas being needed initially as a works site for the Mass Transit Railway project.

6.38 Construction of a seawall for the sewage screening plant at Aberdeen, near the Western breakwater was under way.

6.39 Feasibility reports for developments at Tai Hang Road and at Mount Butler and Braemar Hill were completed. Investigation continued into developments at Victoria Road and Kennedy Town, Stanley Valley, Shau Kei Wan and Quarry Bay and the area North of Wah Fu Estate.

6.40 The planning and design of two additional reclamation projects at Aberdeen were initiated. They will involve construction of a total of 1,210 m of seawall, and will together provide about 9.5 hectares of land for boatyards and roads.

Kowloon

6.41 Sham Shui Po Reclamation Scheme Stage I, Phase A was completed. The construction of the new passenger ferry pier (being Phase B of the scheme) commenced. Design of the covered ways, concourse area and road and drainage works on the reclamation neared completion.

6.42 Planning and design of the first stage of the Cheung Sha Wan Reclamation scheme continued; it will provide 5.7 hectares of land planned to accommodate a permanent wholesale market, a section of the West Kowloon Corridor Road and a large salt-water pumphouse to provide flushing water for the western half of the Kowloon Peninsula.

6.43 Design of and the preparation of contract documents for the construction of the Kai Tak Nullah Extension, the last section in Kowloon Bay, were almost completed.

6.44 Planning for a further reclamation of 17.4 hectares at Cheung Sha Wan was in hand. The new reclamation will provide land for the West Kowloon Corridor Road project. A start was made on the planning of a new passenger ferry pier at Hung Hom. The pier is required to replace the temporary landing facilities at present used by the ferry companies.

6.45 A new seawall 237 m in length to be built in Kowloon Bay was planned in order to facilitate the completion of the reclamation.
