CONSULTANTS MANAGEMENT DIVISION

This Division is responsible for the management of civil engineering projects entrusted to Consulting Engineers. Seven firms of Consulting Engineers were engaged on 26 projects.

6.07 Satisfactory progress was maintained on the construction of the Airport Tunnel Road and the full length of the runway was opened for operational use at the end of 1975. Construction work was started on the Kwai Chung incinerator project and Stage III of the Clear Water Bay Road Development project at Ngau Chi Wan. Tenders were invited for the interim sewage treatment works at Sha Tin.

The Development and Airport Division is responsible for investigating the engineering feasibility of schemes for the provision of land for urban development in Kowloon and New Kowloon. Where Government agrees to proceed with a scheme, the Division also carries out the formation of the land and the provision of services.

6.09

Although responsibility for most of the projects in the New Territories was handed over to the N.T.D.D. following its creation in July 1973, the Division continued to carry out a number of land formation and road construction projects in the New Territories.

6.10

The Division is also responsible for the planning, design and construction of civil engineering works in connection with development and maintenance of the Airport. Monitoring and co-ordination of solid waste disposal throughout the territory, with particular reference to the planning and operation of controlled refuse tips, also fall within the responsibilities of the Division.
