UNDER THE VERY CAP- ABLE CAPTAINCY OF MR. B. E. MAUGHAN, THE HONG KONG BOWLERS' WEEK AT HOME WAS COMMENCED ON MONDAY, JULY 18, WITH A GAME AGAINST CROUCH HILL ON THE GREENS UPON WHICH THE INTERNATIONAL TRIAL TOOK PLACE FOR THE SELECTION OF ENGLAND'S REPRESENTATIVES FOR 1938.

Opponents' team included several county bowlers and they were successful on all four rinks. The rinks and results were:-

Subsequently, badges were ex- changed and the team entertained, when the toast of the H.K.L.B.A. was honoured by our hosts and greetings extended from the Asso- ciation to the Crouch Hill Club.

A flag was also presented which will be framed and hung by the side of the Australian Association's pennant.

This fixture was treated as an official visit from the Hong Kong Association and has undoubtedly enhanced considerably the already very high regard with which the Association is held in the old coun- try.

Once again our representatives were royally entertained, there be- ing tea before and dinner after the match. · During the course of the speeches, Mr. Tweedie Wilson, Pre- sident of the Surrey County Bow- ling Association, and of the Croy- don Club, stated that Croydon would always welcome Overseas Bowlers, and especially Hong Kong, and he asked that a game be ar ranged every year.

Leyland returned to form with the bat for Yorkshire and scored 195 of his sides' total of 453. Nut- ter bowled very well in this innings and, despite the big score compiled by Yorkshire, returned the excel- lent figures of 5 for 68.

Most notable individual feat was provided by Kenneth Farnes, the Essex and England fast bowler. Playing against Worcester, he took 14. wickets in the course

of the match for 119 runs..

W. R. Hammond was also well to the fore with another, century, this time at the expense off Somer- set.
