NEW WORKS

The following paragraphs briefly describe some of the Architectural Office projects which were completed or which were under construction during the year. Full lists of such projects costing more than $50,000.00 each are given at Appendices K and L respectively. Consultants who were engaged on certain projects are listed at Appendix M.

Airport

4.36

The installation of a secondary surveillance radar system on Mount Parker was completed in May 1975.

4.37

The year's end saw work in hand in respect of the passenger pier and apron decks in Stand No. 5, the shell of the Eastwards extension of the terminal building at basement, Arrival and Departure levels, the shell of the airside waiting accommodation, the temporary ramp to Departure level at the Eastern half of the podium and vehicular deck, and improvements to the fire services installations, all as parts of the modifications to the terminal building.

By the end of the year work was also in hand on the construction of an office building associated with the air cargo complex.

Education Buildings

4.39

Two new technical institutes, one at Kwun Tong and the other at Kwai Chung, were completed during the year while a third technical institute at Cheung Sha Wan was under construction. These former two were completed in time for the commencement of the academic year in the late summer of 1975, while the latter is due for completion at the same time in 1977.

The year also saw the completion of alterations and improvements at the old Northcote Training College.

Fire Services Buildings

An ambulance depot at Mount Davis was completed in June 1975.

A temporary fire station on Ap Lei Chau was well advanced by the end of the year.

General Items

4.43

Work on an extension to the workshops and apprentice training practice shop at premises of the Electrical and Mechanical Office of Public Works Department was completed in September 1975.

4.44

During the year standby generators were installed at the Royal Observatory and its outstations.

4.45

Also completed during the year was a Vehicle Inspection Centre at Hong Kong Airport.
