GIVES EVIDENCE BEFORE QUEENS
COMMITTEE OF COMMONS
London, To-day.
Mr. Duncan Sandys, M.P., gave evidence in private at yesterday's sitting of the Select Committee of the House of Commons which is enquiring into the substance of the recent statements made by him and the applicability of the Offi- cial Secrets Act to Members of Parliament. Meanwhile, in the Commons, the Prime Minister
suggested in a reply to a question that the Op- position Leader should open conversations through the usual channels to see what ar- rangements could be made for an early Com- mons debate on the Report of the Committee of Privileges which found that a breach of pri- vilege was committed when the Military Court of Inquiry ordered Mr. Sandys to appear be- fore it in uniform.
The War Minister, when ques- tioned, declined to give informa- tion regarding the time and place of the meeting of the Army Council which decided to set up the Court of Inquiry into the suspected leak- age or to make public the names of those present at the meeting on the ground that it has not been the practice of the House to make the proceedings of the Army Council, the subject of detailed question and
answer.
