General Franco's Reply To British Protests
London, To-day
The eagerly awaited statement by the Prime Minis
ter on General Franco's answer to the British note regarding the bombing of British ships was read before the House yesterday by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir John Simon. He declared that General Franco's note is still under consideration and that he thus was not in
a position to give more than a brief sum- mary of his statements.
Franco, he stated, remained firm
in his contention that harbours may
justifiably be regarded as military DUTCH PROTEST
objectives but he made certain pro- posals regarding the setting aside
of one harbour, namely Almeria, as TO MEXICAN
a port for foreign ships bearing non-military cargoes to Republican | Spain.
In his answer, General Franco also denied that British ships had been deliberately sought out as tar- gets by Nationalist bombers.
