Within an hour of schedule, One member of the crew of the German s.s. Assuan,

the international refugee train from Hankow, which left there on Tuesday, arrived at Kowloon Railway station this morning with some 300 passengers of all nationalities on board.

The train was originally due at noon and within a few min- utes of 12.30, the station pre- sented an animated spectacle, the platform being packed with a large crowd of relatives, and friends of those on board as well as representatives from the con- suls of the various nationalities represented..

In a few minutes disembarkation had taken place and all was bustle and excitemnt.

Occupying the first carriage after the locomotive, were a party of bearded and turbanned Indians. As one progressed down the platform one saw French marines and blue- jackets with picturesque tasselled сара,

GERMAN-CHINA RELATIONS

Singapore, To-day, The Daily Telegraph's Berlin correspondent states that poli tical circles in Berlin are cer tain that Dr. Trautmann will not return to his Chinese post and will not be succeeded. It is unlikely that diplomatic re- lations with China will be broken off but Germany's sym- pathy with Japan will be shown by leaving a Charge D'Affaires without Ambassa dorial rank with the Chinese Government.-Reutre.

CANTON APPREHENSIVE

Canton, To-day.

Canton was thrown into .- state of apprehension by the sudden appearance of an un- known number of Japanese planes which paid a lightening visit after two hours bombing of the railways. Apparently, no bombs were dropped by the raiders who were visible above thick lowlying clouds but the A. A. batteries went into ac tion firing blindy.

Crowds of Chinese are flock- ing on to the Bund opposite

Shameen fearing the visit is only a prelude to a further raid.

This is the first appearance of Japanese planes, over Canton since last Wednesday. The All Clear sounded at 10.80 a.m.

The International Refugee Train from Hankow is believ ed to be somewhere in the vi- cinity of Canton. From Our Staff Representative.

Since then three further pa tients have been admitted to the Infectious Diseases Hospital. One of them," Helmut Eggert, was removed from the ship on Monday, and is a serious con- dition. Yesterday, two further suspect cases were removed to hospital, one of them named Brandt and the other Behrand European members in its crew, It is understood that the now confined to the ship in the Assuan has

some thirty-five quarantine anchorage.
