FIRST HAT-TRICK OF THE SEASON
NEW SCOTS' PRO. GOLF CHAMPION
Lowest Score Ever Recorded
(By AIR MAIL)
J. H. Ballingall, Balmore, with an aggregate 284 the lowest ever to be recorded in this competition won the Scottish Professional Championship at Lundin Links recently.
W. Hastings, Barassie, the holden, and T. B. Haliburton, Prestwick SL. Nicholas, were runners-up two strokes
behind.
cently by the West of Scotland - Al- liance.
The astonishing thing about Ballingall's success is that he has had no spectacular assistance from his putter. In his four rounds he had only two long putts down, and they were both in the 69 which he did on Tuesday, but he generally: gave little away on the greens, and through the green he has put up a notable average of accuracy. His ball was as a rule playable from all his drives.

The new champion is 24 years old, and is a native of Lundin Links, where he learned his golf, and was, as amateur, a member of the Lundin cluo, After employment as a club-maker in Leven, he decided three years ago to take up the game professionally, and was appointed to Balmore, outside of Glasgow. The remarkable
thing is that he has won the Scottish title within three months of qualifying for the first time under the regulations
to compete for it.
an
Locally his chance was highly rated: for he was prominent in amateur com- petitions in this county. He was Fife Champion once, and also held the links championships both here and at Leven. Since joining the professional ranks
he has played himself well into sever- al events, including the Northern Open, and has won Alliance prizes. He was in the four-players' tie for the Exhibi- tion Quaich competition organised re

and T. M. Plenderleith were thanked for their services.

HIS HUNDRED
London, May 19. OWLERS were always on top in a keen day's cricket at Gilling- ham, where 20 wickets fell for 373 runs. Wright did the hat-trick for Kent, and Goddard bowled superbly for Gloucester- shire, who, after being sent into bat, finished the day 107 runs ahead with all their second innings wickets intact.
The experienced Charles Barnett took the honours at the start of the day and afterwards the younger men, Crapp, Gloucester- shire's left-hand batsman, and Wright, Kent's slow bowler, took the limelight. Wright, by dismissing Sinfield, Haynes and Cranfield with three successive balls in his 23rd over, performed the hat-trick
the first of the season.

Crapp took out his bat after giving a splendid display for two hours. He scored readily all round the wicket and sent the ball to the boundary 14 times. Wright took 7 for 77 on a dead pitch and at one time actually sent back four
men without conceding a run.
NEVER FALTERED
W. R. Hammond, skippering Glou cestershire in the absence of Allen, who is indisposed, placed his faith i Goddard and Sinfield when Kent went in, and the pair never faltered on a pitch that was no faster than in the Kent morning. Fagg was the one batsman to face the cleverly-flighted off-spinners with confidence.
Woolley and Ames each hit a six, and with two men out for 62 at tea Kent were not so badly placed. · After the interval Goddard got to work and Kent lost their last five wickets for 28.
