Canton, To-day.. Hundreds of Chinese refugees are fleeing from Namoa Island, crossing the narrow channel be- tween the island and the main- land in rafts and small boats.
Last night fighting between the the Japanese landing party and Chinese was reported to be still continuing, but it was expected that the militia would soon have to re- tire to the mainland.
There are about 12 Japanese war- ships around the Island, and most of the troops comprising the land- ing party are said to be Formosan soldiers. Our Own Correspondent.
CLIPPER MAIL DUE TO-DAY
The Philippine Clipper with Mails from the United States has been delayed in Manila with engine trouble and the mails will now be brought to Hong Kong by the 8.8. Anna Maersk, which is due in Hong Kong this afternoon.
The China Clipper will make a round trip from Manila to Hong Kong via Macao next Thursday, arriving and departing from Hong Kong on the same day.
