The paper, however, denies that the attitude adopted at the Disarma- ment Conference in Geneva where the British Government, it will be recalled, demanded the insertion of a clause allowing employment of Air Force bombing squadrons for "policing purposes in certain ad- vanced regions" is responsible for the wholesale slaughter of civilians in Spain and China, since the Gov- ernment intimated later on that they would not insist on such clause in order to facilitate disar- mament negotiations.

The paper then declares that Great Britain would still be willing to abandon the use of bombers, as a police instrument, if a general agreement banning the bombard- ment of civilians is facilitated thereby. Trans-Ocean.

SHANGHAI CURFEW MAY COME OFF

Shanghai, To-day.

It is learned that Police au- thorities of the International Settlement and French Settle- ment are considering the aboli- tion of the curfew which was imposed in August last year.

P

For the past several weeks, the police and other officials concerned have been favouring the abolition of curfew restric- tions as the city is slowly re- turning to normal and the scene of hostilities has shifted a long way from Shanghai.
