The Yellow River flood waters are spreading re- lentlessly over the flat plains of northern Ho- nan, and the inundated area is now estimated to cover approximately 1,000 square miles. However, Japanese engineer officers who are dir- ecting flood fighting operations, are confident that the water could be stopped if the Yellow River did not show a rise in the next forty- eight hours.

2,000 VILLAGES FLOODED

Úpwards of two thousand villages have been flooded and some 30,000 persons affected in various ways by the overflowing of the Hwang Ho following destruction of the dykes, according to a statement issued here by Japanese headquarters, which adds that Japanese troops are en- deavouring to repair the dykes but that their work is greatly impeded by lack of necessary material.
The statement further asserts that practically no loss of life has been caused by the flood among Ja- panese troops.--Trans-Ocean.

Hankow, To-day. The flood catastrophe in Honan province assumed even greater pro- portions yesterday as a result cloudbursts and torrential rains, and water from the Yellow River is pouring through about 20 breaks in the dike to inundate still further the extensive Honan plains.

It is estimated that over three million persons have thus far been effected by the flood. Chinese and Japanese are now separated by lake about 50 kilometres wide and extending from the Yellow River to Chowkiaków, an inundated area comprising several thousand square kilometres. London, To-day; · Members of the China Cam- paign Committee lobbied in the House of Commons last evening urging members of all parties to embargo oil exports from the Bri- tish Empire to Japan, and that oil should not be carried in Bri- tish tankers.

SHANGHAI POLICE OFFICER WED IN COLONY
Arriving in the Colony by the R.M.S. Empress of Canada this morning, Mr. Frank Day Lockwood, police officer of the Shanghai Mu- nicipal Police Force, was married to Miss Elsie White Thompson, of No. 218 (first floor), Nathan Road, Kowloon.
