The first race, the Beaufort Handi- cap over one mile, was a treat to watch. Carrying 168 lbs. Made second favourite, Valorous was never in the picture, which cari only be accounted for by the fact that it was carrying 165 lbs.

A great finish was witnessed in the eighth race, the Lead Mine Handicap for "B" Class China ponies. Taking advantage of the light burden of 140 Ibs. Mr. Proulx sent Jober out into the lead. followed by Havoc Eve (Mr. V T. Fune) and Expression Time (Mr. B. L. Tao), with Humdrum Eve (Mr. H. C. Pih), the favourite, fourth.

Havoc Eve could not keep up with Jober, which was running strongly, and Expression Time gradually came

; up, whilst on the outside Humdrum Eve was responding beautifully to Mr. Pih's riding. These three ponies fought out a thrilling finish. With a last stroke of the whip, Humdrum Eve shot forward to beat Expression Time, which in turn just managed to beat Jober for second position.
