N.W.D. Yardley May Fill Vacancy
SINFIELD REPLACES
J. C. CLAY
London, To-day.
Further disaster befell
the eleven
potential England Test 2-6
when 86.
Hardstaff, the Notts 0.6 batsman, injured his hand while attending to his car on Monday night.
The doctor who attended him stated that Hardstaff would be un- able to play in the First Test Match which commences at Trent Bridge, next Friday.
Mr. N. W. D. Yardley, the Cam- bridge University skipper and a Yorkshireman has been invited to replace Hardstaff.
Sinfield, of Gloucestershire, who was invited to fill the vacancy in the team caused by Clay's with- drawal, has accepted the Selection Committee's invitation.
TOPPED BOWLING
Yardley, the Light Blues' skip- per, finished third in the Univer- sity's batting average last season with 30.23, while he headed the bowling with 18.95.
Commenting on Yardley's per- formances throughout last season, Wisden states:
"After being used very little in the earlier matches N. W. D. Yardley finally proved himself the most effective attacker in the Cambridge side. He acquired the happy knack of breaking up partnership; and against Hamp- shire he thoroughly established himself, while he batted splendid- ly in the later games, especially at Lord's."-Reuter.
