KAIFENG CONCENTRATION

As far as particulars can be ascertained in Hankow, the fighting in the region of the Lunghai Railway now seems to be concentrated on the town of Kaifeng where Chinese troops -are-massed, having been-with-- drawn from the east to defend Kaifeng.

According to Chinese reports from the front, the Japanese columns, about 311⁄2 divisions strong, have advanced south- wards to the main line from Lanfeng to Hwaiyuan.

LUYI TAKEN

The Japanese report of the capture of Luyi, farther to the south and in the east of the province of Honan, is confirmed by the Chinese.

The present, front line, begins at Kaifeng and ends in the south at Fukou, and Chowkia- kow which, as a highroad junc- tion, is of great strategic im portance. This front line from north to 'south runs parallel to the Pinghan Railway for a dis- tance of about 60 kms.-Trans- Ocean.
