Indians Lose First Game --To Recreio
THE
HE Volunteers registered their first win of the Baseball season when they defeated the Hong Kong Baseball Club by 7 runs to at Caroline Hill, yesterday, and even the presence of Madigan, on the losers mound, was not sufficient to stop the hard-slugging Volunteers.

Open Golf Contest Disappointment
THE Royal and Ancient Club's an- Ports course at Deal would be unfit for nouncement that the Royal Cinque play in the Open Championship, which begins on July 4 is a bitter blow for
many.
St. George's Club,
The statement added that the Royal probably lend us their course for the Sandwich, "will Championship."
This is the first time in the history of the Championship that such a step has been taken. It arises from the fact that in February the course was inundated by the sea and for time part of it was under water.
Rome
The decision to change the venue means a loss of between £10,000 and £15,000 to the town of Deal. Every hotel for miles around had been fully booked.
It was on the Sandwich course, five years ago, that Henry Cotton at last broke through the long sequence of American victories in the 'Open."

Mid-Day Sun Not To Race Again
MID-DAY SUN, last year's Derby
winner, has run his last race and will be retired to the stud at the end of the season.
.It had been intended to train him for the Coronation Cup at Epsom and the Ascot Gold Cup, but he will not now compete in either race.
This is mainly due to the fact that the ground became hard when Mid-day Sun was unfit. In the opinion of his trainer, Fred Butters, it will not be possible to have him at his best either at Epsom or Ascot.
Mid-day Sun belongs to Mrs. G. Butt Miller and her mother, Mrs. Talbot. He was the first horse to win the Derby for a woman "owner.
*
As an experiment, a percentage of the costs of transporting horses to race meetings, by rail, will be borne by the Race-course Betting Control Board. This arrangement has been made by the Board with the railway companies to assist owners and trainers.
