The Colony Open Pairs Bowls Championship, began in lugu- brious circumstances last Monday. After the heavy rain on Sun- day evening, there was a good deal of uncertainty as to whether play would be possible, but six of the matches scheduled commenced and three of them were actually finished after sundry spasmodic interruptions.

DON'T JERK!

The following-through at bowls is as necessary as following on when alighting from moving tram. If you just "get off" a tram you make contact between the earth and your nasal organ. you don't follow through at bowls your effort is a jerk, and nothing is more foreign to good length than jerking. Also, jerking jars the muscles, but the natural fol- low-through keeps them soft and yielding.

A. A. Remedios struggled hard to improve matters and played a great game, whilst Dick Alves was a trifle

A deal of tenacity was neces- sary to achieve this desirable ob- ject, but the conditions for the last few heads were ludicrous.

The best achievement was that of R. Ellis and F.E.E. Booker, who secured the better of the

Lay brothers by a single shot. Booker has to thank his partner for the victory, as Ellis played a sterling game; the heavier the green became, the more he seemed to like it.

A T. Lay was not up to his usual standard and left Hyde Lay rather too much to do, much of which he accomplished successfully.

A GOOD FEAT

L. Jack and A.A. Dand also achieved a good feat when they beat "Jock" Örem and Wally Mair, more than useful pair, whom I ex- pected to see going quite a long way in the competition.

A camel wouldn't be's camel without its hump; and you can't. "stand" like a Hindoo making patty cakes and get consistent re- sults. Without heels together, spine bent, and legs rigid, with no bending of the knees as if about to "devote" yourself, the muscles are formed on wrong parts of the anatomy. That is why reliable, fast drivers, with deadly direction, are as scarce as the truth about Germany.
