day to 240 million gallons per day. Construction work proceeded satisfactorily and delivery of plant under two overseas contracts commenced.

11.35 Design of service reservoirs and principle trunk and distribution mains for supplying water to new towns at Sha Tin and Tsing Yi commenced.

11.36 Construction of new fresh water and salt water service reservoirs to supply Lai Chi Kok Ridge high level areas was in hand.

11.37 Negotiation for the supply of plant for the extension of Tuen Mun Treatment Works to a capacity of 20 million gallons a day, to provide supplies to Tuen Mun New Town Stage 1B developments, was completed and the preparation of the contract for the associated civil work was in hand.

11.38 The Division is responsible for the preparation of outline proposals for new water supply schemes for proposed developments throughout the territory, as well as for revision of requirements to meet growth of demand in existing, developing and redeveloping areas.

Planning Works

11.39 A planning report entitled 'Demand Forecast 1973 to 1983' forming part of the 1974 - Water Resources Reappraisal' was completed and a planning note entitled 'Study on Limitation of Development in the Peak Area Water Supply' was prepared.

11.40 A technical note entitled 'Design Criteria: Introduction of a Salt Water Flushing System in Any Area in Hong Kong' was under preparation.

11.41 A study was carried out on the provision of water supply for an additional population of 10,000 in Wah Fu Estate and preliminary studies were completed on the extension of water supplies to proposed high class residential development at Mount Butler and Braemar Hill, and to a proposed industrial development at Siu Sai Wan.

11.42 The Cusdin Plan on 'Development of Hong Kong University' was commented upon in respect of the extent to which Waterworks installations would be affected by the development proposal.

11.43 A study was made on the effect on Waterworks installations of a new express-way leading from Causeway Bay to Chai Wan as proposed in the consultant's report on 'Hong Kong Eastern Corridor Investigation'.

11.44 The planning of the new Waterworks depots at Lung Cheung Road and Wanchai reclamation was being reviewed in accordance with the latest accommodation requirements.
