9.102 A technical report on parking characteristics at Government off-street car parks was completed and published. An after study to investigate the immediate effect of the recent increase in parking charges at Government car parks was also carried out and reported on.
Journey Time Surveys
9.103 Car, bus, and tram journey time surveys were carried out in the Central District of Hong Kong to compare journey speed before and after the introduction of clearway restrictions on Des Voeux Road Central between Jackson Road and Jubilee Street.
9.104 A car journey time survey covering the whole of Hong Kong was carried out to up-date the data on journey speeds for main traffic routes.
Miscellaneous Studies
9.105 Other surveys undertaken included a survey of passenger arrival and departure by selected ground transport modes at Kai Tak Airport; a before-and-after study of the establishment of a 'Box Junction' at the junction of Nathan Road with Austin Road; a survey of traffic conditions at the Wan Chai Ferry Terminal; traffic counts at the Macau Ferry Concourse and directional counts at forty major junctions in West Kowloon to provide data traffic management schemes in conjunction with the proposed construction of the Mass Transit Railway.
Statistics
9.106 The total number of vehicles registered on 31.3.75 was 191,300, a decrease of 5.2% during the previous 12 months.
9.107 Two-thirds of the cordons and screenlines on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon experienced a decrease in average daily traffic as compared with the preceding year. A sharp drop of 12% in traffic volume was recorded at the screenline between Sham Shui Po and Mong Kok. The highest traffic flow occurred on Prince Edward Road near Choi Hung Road where the average daily traffic for 1974 was 114,170 vehicles per day, a decrease of 6% from the figure for 1973.
