The figures for 1938 are, how- ever, hot strictly comparable with those of last year in so far as since then Austria has been incorporated into the Reich so that the trade figures from now onwards contain those of Austria as well.
For the "Greater Reich" the im- ports totalled 477 million marks in April 1938, as against.478 in March, |1938 and 492 in April, 1937.
No conclusions can be drawn from the apparent heavy fall in exports by comparison with last year, see- ing that the latter figure included also exports to Austria which have now disappeared altogether as for- eign trade. A similarly apparent decline in imports is misleading as b. the imports from Austria are now excluded from calculation. Import from overseas declined only by 4 million marks.-Trans-Ocean.
