9.54 On Hong Kong Island an off-street open air car park adjoining Wong Nai Chung Gap Road, providing spaces for 103 private cars, was completed. Also two off-street car parks were planned for the Stanley area.

9.55 A private multi-storey car park at Oi Kwan Road, Wanchai was opened to the public with a total of 313 spaces available.

9.56 Under Parking Meter Programmes Nos. 9, 11 and 13, all existing parking meters on Hong Kong Island and those in Tsim Sha Tsui and Yau Ma Tei areas in Kowloon were replaced with meters charging at increased rates. A total of 5,780 parking meters were involved, being 3,684 on the Island and 2,096 in Kowloon.

9.57 In the New Territories, 1,129 old-rate parking meters were installed in Tsuen Wan area under Parking Meter Programme No. 12.

9.58 In Kowloon, under Parking Meter Programmes Nos. 15 and 17, 690 metered parking spaces for private cars in Hung Hom and 1,240 metered parking spaces for private cars and 311 metered parking spaces for goods vehicles in To Kwa Wan were installed.

9.59 There were net increases of 149 metered spaces on the Island and 2,829 on the Mainland.

9.60 The numbers of designated parking spaces for private cars were reduced by 249 and 2,772 on the Island and in Kowouin respectively and increased by 138 in the New Territories.

9.61 There were net increases of 31 lorry parking, loading and unloading spaces in Kowloon and 192 in the New Territories and a net decrease of 10 spaces on the Island.

9.62 There was a net increase of 129 motor cycle parking spaces, being 44 on the Island, 12 in Kowloon and 73 in the New Territories.

Traffic Light Signals

9.63 Nine additional sets of traffic light signals were installed on the Island, bringing the total number of sets now in operation to 100.

9.64 On the Mainland, 12 additional sets of traffic light signals were installed, bringing the total number of sets now in operation to 175.

9.65 Traffic light signal installation works were in hand at 2 locations, one on the Island and one on the Mainland.

9.66 Designs of signal installation were completed for a further 18 locations, 11 on the Island and 7 on the Mainland.

9.67 A scheme covering the general revision of signal settings for the linked signal system in Central District on the Hong Kong Island was planned. This involved more than 20 sets of existing installations.
