Here are three ways in which the amateur needlewoman may introduce embroidery-now such a smart note in dress for all occasions-effectively.

1. Tiny wool tassels, each row in a different colour, decorate the pockets of a navy suit.
These tassels are simply four loops of wool sewn through the ma- terial with a knot at the top of the four and the ends of the loops cut through. A half-hoop of tiny gilt beads finishes the top, as shown in the detail sketch.
2. A plain dress gains an expen- sive look by circles of self-coloured embroidery. To work this, cut a circle of white card the size of a penny and
round it little French knots, using fine silk braid instead of embroidery silk.
