The following paragraphs describe briefly the progress on major works. Details of projects completed or under construction are given in Appendices X and Y while statistics relating to roads and drains are shown in Appendix AA.
Road Works in Hong Kong
9.17
The widening of Wong Chuk Hang Road between Aberdeen Technical School and Aberdeen Fire Station and the extension of A Kung Ngam Road were completed. The roads in Wan Chai Reclamation leading to the cargo handling area were also completed and opened to traffic.
9.18
Works in respect of the widening and realignment of Queensway were over 60% completed. The northern carriageway of the realigned road was opened to road users and the traffic flow was greatly improved. The widening of Pokfulam Road through Pokfulam Village progressed satisfactorily.
9.19 A temporary footbridge was erected to span over Harcourt Road at its junction with Murray Road to facilitate pedestrian movements across the main road.
9.20
A number of minor new roads were also constructed in conjunction with building development in Tai Hang, Chai Wan and Wong Chuk Hang. The construction of the bus terminus and access road for the Oceanarium at Aberdeen started at the end of 1974.
Road Works in Kowloon

The collapse of the Paul Lee Engineering Company and the subsequent re-entry by Government in November 1974 caused delays in the construction of two of the projects being carried out by the Division. The completion and testing of the Grade Separated Access into the Airport Maintenance Area was carried out by the Maintenance Contractor and it was opened to traffic in January 1975. Work on the Elevated Road from Prince Edward Road over Nathan Road to Lai Chi Kok Road was also resumed in January 1975, after the successful negotiation of a new contract. Upon completion, the elevated road will cater for the major east-west traffic movement across Kowloon Peninsula and traffic re-routing necessitated by the Mass Transit Railway Construction.
9.22 Good progress was maintained on several major contracts which will form part of the Primary Distributor Road on the western side of Kowloon Peninsula. Tong Mi Road Extension and the Jordan Road Intersection and Ferry Concourse Stage I were opened to traffic in December 1974, while work on the Canton Road Duplication was well advanced and works were expected to be completed well ahead of schedule. Good progress was made on the construction of the Elevated Road from Gascoigne Road to Tong Mi Road - Eastern Section and a contract was let for the foundations for the Western Section.
9.23 With the completion of the New Lai Chi Kok Beach Road and the widening of Sheung Shing Street at the junction with Tin Kwong Road, traffic circulation, in these and adjacent areas, was much improved.
