U.S. Government Impatient Over Delay
No Start Until Next Year?
AMERICAN GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS AND AVIA- TION INTERESTS ARE RE- LIABLY REPORTED TO BE GETTING IMPATIENT WITH WHAT IS TERMED BRITISH DELAY IN STARTING THE TRANSATLANTIC AIR SER-

Under the Anglo-American agree- ment for mutual use of bases and navigating facilities, which was signed last year, it was provided that neither Imperial Airways nor Pan American should start an air service bet veen the U.S. and Great Britain until both were ready.
Pan American will be ready to start flying on a regular air mail schedule this summer. Imperial Airways, according to information will not be ready at least until 1939. The correspondent. of the New York Times comments:

"If the British insist on the American line delaying another year or two until Imperial Airways perfects its planes before opening the New York-Southampton ser- vice, the U.S. Post Office is under- stood to be willing to ask for bids on air mail to ports in Continental Europe, with Spain and Portugal especially in mind."
