TENNIS LEAGUE PREPARATIONS
Tennis League Snippets
HE arrival in the Colony of Mrs. Lindsay, (nee Joan Massey) has considerably strengthened the ranks of lady tennis players here. "A hard hitter, she played for Cercle Sportiff Francais in the Shanghai League. I understand that she will be playing for the Hong Kong Cricket Club Mixed Doubles League team.
I hear that Mrs. J. P. Whitham and possibly Miss D. Dodwell will be playing for Hong Kong Cricket Club in the Mixed Doubles League.

The League makes a start with the Mixed Doubles League on Monday and it is interesting to note that there are several newcomers this season includ- ining the Hong Kong Cricket Club, who
I have been told that there is a possibility that Guy Cheng, former Shanghai Interport tennis player, will be coming to Hong Kong, which case he will represent Chinese Recreation Club in the Tennis League.
Newcomers to United Services Re- creation Club's Mixed Doubles team this season are Major and Mrs. Baines.
I understand Lieut. D. C. Misra, of Rajputana Rifles, will be playing for United Services Recreation Club in the "A" Division of the Men's Tennis League. He will be, I be- lieve, the first Indian officer to play for this Club. He has a powerful forehand drive and volleys confident- ly, although he could improve his overhead. J. H. Smalley will also be playing for U.S.R.C.
A newcomer to South China Ath- letic Association's "A" Division ranks in the Lawn Tennis League is C. C. Chang.
Y. Ip and L, Ip, two promising young players, will represent South China A. A, in the "D" Division.
I understand that A. V. Remedios, Recreio "A" Division League Tennis player, will not be available for their Mixed Doubles League team.
I understand that South China are making bold bid this coming League tennis season to win the "C". Division championship. They have. a_wealth of talent at their disposal, and their only problem at the mo- ment is to utilise it to the best pos- sible advantage.
The Kowloon Indian Tennis Club will, I hear, be fielding very nearly the same team as last year in the "B" Division of the Tennis League, although they may be strengthened by the inclusion of Lieut. D. C. Misra. They will miss the services of Iqbal Mahan Singh, however, as he is at present in hospital, while his brother Dr. H. Mahan Singh, who was so il last season, has left the Colony on a health trip to India. Wahab, who came down from Can- ton to play in several of their matches last year, will now be un- able to do so owing to pressure of work.
I hear that D. W. Waterton, who used to play for Kowloon Bowling Green Club in the "D" Division se veral seasons ago, will be turning out for Radio Sports Club this sea- son, while other newcomers to this Club aré' Au Kam-moon and L. Souża.
Central British Association have returfed their three tennis courts at King's Park and they are at pre- sent in excellent condition for the commencement of the League. C.B.A. have been strengthened by the re- - turn to. the Colony of N. Whitley and F. Angus, both of whom were on leave during last season.
make their first appearance, the Ladies Recreation Club, Chinese Recreation Club and Club de Recreio, all of whom are staging a comeback.
The United Services Recreation Club, holders of the Dunlop Mixed Doubles League Shield, have not quite decided on their team for next Mon- day's opening match against K.C.C. (2), and are holding their first trial on Friday, when the following pairs will be on view:
L. Goldman and Miss A. Tylor. Major and Mrs. Baines (or Mrs. Holmes).
G. E. R. Divett and Miss M. Griffiths.
Lt. D. C. Misra and Mrs. Skin-
ner.
The first two pairs are almost cer- tain to play as above, although, Mrs. Baines is, I believe, indisposed at the| moment and Mrs. Holmes is likely to commence the League season in part- nership with Major Baines.

Lieut. D. C. Misra, of the Rajputana Rifles, is a very fine stroke player, al- though inclined to be slightly erratic at the moment. He has not played in competitive tennis for some time, but should find his form soon. He will to partner Mrs. Skinner, a newcomer the Colony and very promising player, in Friday's trial. -The-U.S.R.C.-have-practically-decid- ed upon two pairs for their “A” Divi- sion team. *L. Goldman and Major Baines and G. E. R. Divett and Lieut. D. C. Misra are almost certain to play together and will form the backbone of the team.
WEALTH OF TALENT
The third pair is at the moment very uncertain. Major Newnham, who should have made the team quite eas- ily, is at the moment suffering from tennis-elbow and will be an absentee for a week or two, but there are se veral other promising players among whom are Comdr. E. G. A. Clifford, of H.M.S. Cumberland, a player with vast tournament experience, Flt. Lt. G. A. L. Woods, of H.M.S. Eagle, who is re- puted to be very good, Col. N.M.S. Irwin, J. E L. Smalley, Major J. C. McDonald, who played for the U.S.R.C. in several matches last season and of course Major Newnham.
It will be seen from the above that if all these players are available, the U.S.R.C. should offer stern resistance to the leading teams in the "A"..Di- vision.
NO CHANGES-
Club de Recreio are not contemplat- ing any changes in their "A" Division team and their line-up will probably be the same as last year's, that is, A. V. Remedios and J. Gonsalves, F. J. Re- medios and A. V. Gosano and H. A. Barros and C. A. Barretto. J. J. Re-
"B" Division players, may be promot- ed.
I am told that Craigengower Cric-medios, probably the best among the ket Club will have absolutely no new talent for their senior team. They are likely to be represented in "B" Division by J. W. Leonard and G. Choa, G. Lai, R. Choa, F. R. Zim mern and W. J. Howard.
4
W. Rapley and D. Hung are said to have made such strides at tennis. that they are likely to be promoted to the "C" team. They were the most powerful combination in Crai- gengower's "D" team last season.
Kowloon Indians Tennis Club, are if anything, slightly weaker this season in the "B" Division. They have lost the services of the Mahan Singh bro- thers, one of whom, Iqbal, is at pre- sent indisposed, while the other has gone to India. They have one "new- comer in Feroz All, who played in two League games, their probable lineup for their first League match will be: IS. A. and S. S. Hussain, Firdos Khan
