FIRE FIGHTING SERVICES

London, To day. In moving the second reading in the Commons of the first measures dealing with fire precautions which have been before Parliament for more than 40 years, and the first legislation to place on local authorities legal obligations to arrange for efficient fire services, the Home Secretary said the system of fire precautions in Britain had grown up in a very haphazard way without any co-ordinated public effort.

new appliances as far as human ingenuity could go to deal with the terrible danger of fire following air raids.

They were proceeding in this matter upon a big scale, and had already started distribution to local authorities of these auxiliary appliances which would be there to be used in emergencies.-British Wireless.
