CORDELL HULL RESENTS ACCUSATION OF SUPPORT OF CHAMBERLAIN POLICY
Washington, To-day. Agitation in press and Congress over various as- pects of American foreign policy, particularly neutrality and its attitude towards aggressors since Britain reorientated her policy in this connection, culminated in a very remarkable incident at the State Department yesterday. Mr. Cordell Hull, the Secretary of State, addressed newsmen and accused certain journalists of criminally libelling members of the State De- partment and generally imputing pro-Fascist or at least un-American, viewpoints to them in their conduct of foreign policy.

Whilst pressure to permit arms to go to Spain continued in Con- gress, Mr. Hull took exception to allegations in certain newspapers that the State Department not only. favoured Gen. Franco but was ac- tually selling arms to the Reich in contravention of the German. American Peace Treaty, the impu tation being that..such arms were available to Gen. Franco.
CHAMBERLAIN POLICY Speaking with emotion, Mr. Hul 1st denied that the State Department any had violated any treaty.
